The 4 Most Common Forms of Testosterone

Testosterone is essential for any man interested in bodybuilding. Here are the four most common forms.

Testosterone

Testosterone Cypionate

Testosterone Cypionate (“cyp”) is very common and can be found fairly easily. Cyp is commonly prescribed by doctors to treat low testosterone levels in men. Testosterone cypionate has an active life of around eight days and a detection time of three months.

This testosterone is typically injected weekly or every two weeks. Initial recommended dosage is 200mg-500mg weekly, but users can eventually build up to 500mg-1,000mg every week if they feel comfortable.

Testosterone Enanthate

Testosterone Enanthate (“test e”) is fairly interchangeable with Testosterone Cypionate, with the same active life of eight days and a three-month detection time.

This testosterone is seven carbons in length, one shorter than testosterone cypionate. This means that it has more overall steroid weight than cyp. Testosterone enanthate is commonly found in 250mg/ml doses.

Testosterone Propionate

Testosterone propionate works much quicker than the first two mentioned, as its active life of 2-3 days is a bit shorter. This testosterone is found in 100mg/ml preparations (about half of the first two). This requires more frequent doses (about three times a week).

Users recommend this testosterone for its ability to work fast and provide a consistent and sustained look. Bodybuilders will typically use this every 1-2 days leading up to a competition to project their desired image.

The disadvantage of testosterone propionate is the frequent injections required, which lead to consistent soreness and pain. This causes some to stay away from using it to avoid the PIP (post injection pain) that is not prevalent for users of testosterones taken less frequently.

Because this testosterone does not stay active for long, users have found that it does not convert to estrogen as easily as others. This may affect those prone to gynocomastia, so it is recommended that a dose of an AI (aromatase inhibitor) like Red-PCT, Aromasyn or Arimidex is used alongside testosterone propionate.

Sustanon 250

Lastly, there is Sustanon-250, a blend of several testosterones made to appeal to a variety of users. The blend includes short, medium and long acting testosterones. It stays active for three weeks and has a detection time of over three months.

Sustanon-250 can be injected once a week or, more typically, twice a week to enhance the power of the shorter acting testosterones in the blend. Taken twice a week, sustanon-250 provides the users about 500mg on a weekly basis.

The blend is derived of 20mg of testosterone propionate, 60mg of testosterone isocaproate, 60mg of testosterone phenylproionate and 100mg of testosterone decanoate. It was designed to release testosterone doses at different times to help maintain blood levels in users and reduce overall injections.

While many recommend this blend and use it on a consistent basis, others stay away from it. They claim that it provides a roller coaster experience, with different feelings daily due to the blend of testosterones acting at different paces. They typically choose a single ester testosterone like the others mentioned for a more consistent feel.

Doses of sustanon-250 should include an AI to make it unlikely for the longer acting esters to aromatize.

There are many advantages to each of these testosterones, and it’s up to each user to decide what works for them.
